On March 2, 2019, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication conducted an online lecture on Lok Sabha Internship: An Overview at FET Seminar Hall, Rama University, Kanpur.
The online interactive session was conducted by Ms. Poojitha Singh, Academic Associate (Communications) at IIM Kashipur, Uttarakhand and also an Independent Journalist to clarify all the doubts pertaining to internship opportunity in Lok Sabha.
Lok Sabha Internship is the speaker’s research initiative with an aim to acquaint young scholars with the working of Parliamentary Democracy. It also aims to train youth to contribute to research input towards the member of parliaments. The Parliament awards two types of the internship, i.e., Student Internship for one month, and Regular Fellowship for three months. Ms. Singh described the structure, objectives of parliament and also explained the parliamentary committee to the students. She further observed that the parliamentary committee might be appointed or elected by the House or nominated by the speaker/chairman. It works under the direction of the Speaker or Chairman and presents its report to the House or to the Speaker or Chairman. It also has a Secretariat provided by the Lok Sabha/Rajya Sabha.
She also explained the roles and responsibilities of various departments related to standing committees, such as Inquiry committee, Advisory Committee, Public Accounts committee and so on. Furthermore, she described the structure of the Parliament, which includes parliament library, table office, canteen and other facilities provided to the MP (Members of the Parliament) and their visitors.
This online lecture provided a much-needed clarity on the subject and also helped in establishing a smooth learning and interactive environment through technology. The EdTech (Education- Technology) today is truly changing the education landscape.
