Admissions to Ph.D. programs at Rama University Kanpur are conducted twice a year. The Ph.D. program is offered in Full time mode and not in a distance learning mode. Hence, coursework, participation in various interactions, submission of progress reports through presentations on Campus, attending conferences, and seminars in the University and outside the University on regular basis is mandatory during the program.
Rama encourages interdisciplinary research and the exchange of ideas and knowledge in various related fields. Consequently, it allows scholars to appoint a Co-Supervisor from outside University as per university rules.
The main Supervisor for the candidate during the Ph.D. program will be from Rama University, appointed as per the research topic and Supervisor availability.
(a) An Indian national applying for admission to the Ph.D. Program shall apply under one of the categories given below. The Ph.D. mode option (Full time) permitted against each category is also mentioned.
(b) An NRI/FN/PIO will apply under the foreign Candidate category.
(a) Applications for admission to Ph.D. Program shall be invited through an open advertisement, for pre-determined intake for each research domain in the prescribed form as laid down by the University, from time to time.
The University shall admit Ph.D. Candidates only through an entrance test conducted by the Doctoral Admissions Committee.
(b) The syllabus of the Entrance test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject specific. It shall consist of two parts, based on questions with short answers/MCQ. First part will consist of Research Methodology, covering questions from Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Analysis and Data Analysis and Interpretation, General Awareness and English Language. The second Paper shall include subject specific questions from the domain in which the applicant wishes to pursue research.
(c) An interview/viva voce shall be organized where the Candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area through a presentation before a duly constituted FRC. The interview/viva voce shall also consider the following aspects, viz. whether:
(d) A Merit Score Certificate will be awarded to the qualifying applicants indicating the last date for admission. This certificate will be effective for two semesters from the date of issue. But admission will be subject to availability of seats.
(e) The University reserves the right to limit the number of Candidates to be admitted to the University at any time. The resources and other facilities/fiscal constraints would guide this decision.
(f) Entrance Test may be exempted for the following cases:
Such applicants will still have to appear before FRC for an interview/viva voce.
(g) Financial assistance will be offered to deserving full-time scholars.
