Workshop on “Fake (News) Verification” conducted

The Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication, Rama University organized a one-day Workshop on “Fake News Verification” for Journalism and other students on September 21, 2019. The inaugural ceremony started with lightening of the lamp. Mr. Sandeep Shukla, the Deputy Registrar welcomed the chief guests, Dr. Mukul Srivastava Prof. Lucknow University and Mr. Awdesh Gupta Chief Editor Dainik Jagran by presenting the bouquet. Dean Dr. Santosh Gautam along with all the faculty members of FPS lighted the ceremonial lamp with chief guests Dr. Mukul Srivastava Prof. Lucknow University and Mr. Awdesh Gupta Chief Editor Dainik Jagran.
Prof. Mukul Srivastava addressed the students and shared his knowledge on Fake News Verification. He taught students how to Identify and verify fake news on social media. He said that in print media or electronic media, only trained and expert people, i.e., journalists used to write the news but nowadays everyone has become a journalist. They write and share news and pictures on social media platform. This news and pictures may be modified and uploaded or shared in different context in social media. He also said to verify fake images and videos, we need to take the help of search engines.
In an interactive session, Mr. Awdesh Gupta entailed students the importance of newspaper reading. He emphasized that the students should read books and newspaper regularly. He said that journalism is a passion, mission, and profession. For being a successful journalist you need to have knowledge not just a degree. Rama University, Dept of Journalism and Mass Communication academic curriculum, theory and practice, are ideally designed to meet Industry demand.
At the end of the program, vote of thanks was given by Ms Deepali Bajpai, Faculty FPS Department, Rama University.
