United Nations Declares December 21st as World Meditation Day

On December 21, 2024, the United Nations officially marked World Meditation Day, aligning the observance with the winter solstice to emphasize meditation's significance in enhancing well-being. Experts highlight the practice's ability to reduce stress, improve focus, and cultivate inner peace, especially in today’s demanding world.
At Rama University, the Rama Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital organized a two-phase celebration to honour the occasion. Pre-celebratory events included awareness programs and demonstration classes across university faculties, culminating in a grand event on December 21, 2024.
The awareness and training sessions were led by Ms. Charushuruti Arya, Yoga & Meditation Coordinator and Assistant Professor. These sessions took place on December 18 at the Faculty of Judiciary, benefitting 50 participants, and on December 20 at the Faculty of Nursing, engaging over 100 students and staff members.
On the day of the main celebration, the program commenced at 10:00 AM at the Yoga Hall of RAMCH. The inauguration included a prayer and ceremonial lamp lighting by Chief Guest Mr. Ankit Singh, a Yoga Instructor, alongside Guest of Honour Prof. Dr. Hari Om Sharan, Dean of Academics and Planning, and Dr. Guru Prasad K., Principal of Rama Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital.
Dr. K. Deepak Raja, Associate Professor, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the significance of celebrating World Meditation Day. The Guest of Honour, Prof. Dr. Hari Om Sharan, delivered an insightful speech on meditation's benefits, while the Chief Guest, Mr. Ankit Singh, captivated the audience with a lecture titled “Mindfulness and Balancing Chakras by Meditation.” The lecture was followed by a practical demonstration of meditation techniques, engaging the entire gathering.
In recognition of his contribution, Mr. Ankit Singh was honoured with a certificate and memento by the dignitaries. Prof. Dr. Guru Prasad, in his presidential address, highlighted India’s rich cultural heritage in yoga and meditation, elaborating on different meditation techniques and their daily applications.
The program concluded with awards distributed to students who excelled in events related to meditation and Ayurveda. Ms. Charushuruti Arya delivered the vote of thanks, and the event closed with the national anthem, leaving participants inspired and enlightened.
