Introduction: Observing Safe Motherhood Day
Safe Motherhood Day, celebrated across India on April 11th, serves as a vital reminder of the need to prioritize maternal health and well-being. The day emphasizes the importance of access to quality healthcare for every woman before, during, and after childbirth. It advocates for safer pregnancies, informed maternal choices, and the prevention of maternal and infant mortality through timely interventions and education.
In alignment with this national observance, the Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, organized an expert lecture on 11th April 2025, aimed at spreading awareness and deepening the knowledge of nursing students and faculty regarding maternal healthcare and safe motherhood practices.
Program Overview
The session was held in the Seminar Hall, Faculty of Nursing, from 2:00 PM to 4:15 PM, and witnessed an enthusiastic participation of over 250 attendees, including students, faculty members, and healthcare professionals.
The chief guest and keynote speaker for the event was the esteemed Prof. Rossily Nirmal, Principal of Sahara College of Nursing, associated with Max Hospitals, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. With 36 years of distinguished service in maternal and child health, Prof. Nirmal brought immense insight and experience to the event.
Inauguration Ceremony
The program commenced with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp, a symbol of knowledge and enlightenment, performed by:Prof. Rossily Nirmal, Chief Guest & Speaker, Dr. Jasmi Johnson, Principal, Faculty of Nursing, Dr. Minu S.R., Vice Principal, Faculty of Nursing, All Heads of Departments (HoDs) of the Faculty of Nursing. This auspicious beginning set the tone for a day dedicated to learning, reflection, and commitment to maternal health.
Expert Lecture by Prof. Rossily Nirmal
Prof. Rossily Nirmal delivered a powerful and thought-provoking lecture, elaborating on the importance of Safe Motherhood Day. She touched upon the critical aspects of maternal health, the current global and national scenario, and the role of nurses in ensuring safe and respectful maternity care.Her talk highlighted key areas such as:Preventive care during pregnancy, Early identification and management of complications, The importance of skilled birth attendance, Postnatal care and family support, National health initiatives like JSY and PMSMA. Her address not only enriched the academic knowledge of the audience but also instilled a sense of responsibility and compassion among the budding nurses.
Following the expert session, Dr. Jasmi Johnson, Principal of the Faculty of Nursing, delivered an inspirational speech. She motivated students to become change agents in the field of maternal healthcare, stressing the critical role that nurses play in supporting and empowering mothers throughout their journey.
As a token of appreciation and gratitude, a memento and certificate of honor were presented to Prof. Rossily Nirmal by Dr. Jasmi Johnson, recognizing her invaluable contribution to maternal and child health and her support to the Faculty of Nursing.

An open question-and-answer session followed, where students actively engaged with the guest speaker. Their curiosity and interest led to a dynamic exchange of ideas, practical scenarios, and clarification of doubts, making the session deeply interactive and enriching.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Minu S.R., Vice Principal, who acknowledged the efforts of the organizing team, the presence of all attendees, and most importantly, the insightful contribution of the guest speaker.The session was formally concluded with the National Anthem, echoing a shared sense of unity, purpose, and dedication to the cause of safe motherhood.
