Rama University Hosts Community Outreach for World Leprosy Day 2025

The Faculty of Nursing department of community health Nursing, Rama University, successfully organized a Community Extension Outreach Programme on the occasion of World Leprosy Day on 30th January 2025 at Tatiyaganj, Chaubeypur, Kanpur. The event was dedicated to the global theme "Unite, Act, Eliminate", emphasizing the importance of collective action in eradicating leprosy and promoting awareness regarding the disease.
The program was formally inaugurated by Dr. Jasmi Johnson, Principal, in the presence of Mr. Aslam Abbas, H.O.D of the Community Health Nursing Department, along with esteemed faculty members and students. The inaugural address highlighted the significance of community involvement in health awareness and disease prevention.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) students, who played a vital role in educating the community about leprosy. The key activities conducted during the program included:
Role Play on Leprosy Awareness
ANM students performed an engaging and informative role play that depicted the symptoms, causes, treatment, and prevention of leprosy.
The objective was to dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding the disease and encourage early diagnosis and treatment.
Health Education Session
A detailed health education session was conducted by nursing faculty and students, addressing the community on leprosy prevention, available medical facilities, and the importance of seeking timely treatment.
Participants were provided with information on maintaining hygiene and self-care practices to prevent skin infections and related diseases.
Interactive Discussion and Community Participation
The session was made interactive, allowing community members to raise questions and clarify doubts about leprosy and general health concerns.ANM students and faculty members addressed concerns and provided accurate information, reinforcing the importance of health-seeking behaviour.
Community Engagement and Appreciation
A total of 100 participants from Tatiyaganj actively attended the program and expressed their gratitude for the informative and engaging session. The community members appreciated the efforts of the nursing faculty and students for bringing essential health knowledge to their doorstep.
The Community Extension Outreach Programme organized by the Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, was a grand success, spreading crucial awareness about leprosy in alignment with the global theme "Unite, Act, Eliminate". The event significantly contributed to empowering the local community with knowledge and reinforcing the importance of early detection and treatment of leprosy.
