On October 1, 2024, the Faculty of Juridical Sciences (Law) organized an insightful expert talk on "The Changing Dimensions of Law as a Career Option" under the direction of Dr. Praveen Kr. Mall, Dean of the faculty. The keynote speaker for the event was Ratan Kumar Srivastava, I.P.S. (Retired), who shared his expertise on the evolving nature of the legal profession.
Srivastava addressed the dynamic shifts taking place within the legal field, highlighting how technological advancements, globalization, and the changing needs of society are reshaping the profession. He emphasized that law graduates today are not confined to traditional courtrooms; they are increasingly being sought after in industries such as corporate law, IT firms, government services, and more. This diversification of legal careers reflects the growing complexity and interconnectedness of the modern world, where legal knowledge is required across various sectors.
In India, Srivastava explained, the legal landscape is undergoing rapid transformation. With new laws and regulations emerging regularly, businesses are in constant need of specialized legal expertise. This demand extends beyond conventional government roles, offering law graduates opportunities to shape policies, advise companies, and influence areas such as technology and environmental law.
The objectives of the expert talk were twofold: to provide students with a fundamental understanding of career opportunities in the legal field, and to offer a comprehensive overview of how the dimensions of law as a career are shifting in response to global trends.
The event proved to be an enriching experience for students, equipping them with valuable insights into navigating a legal career in today's fast-evolving world.
