CLIENT COUNSELING COMPETITION 2024
24 Oct 2024
The Client Counselling Competition 2024 offers law students an engaging and educational experience, allowing them to showcase their skills in client interaction, legal analysis, and problem-solving. These competitions mirror real-life attorney-client consultations, enabling participants to conduct initial interviews, assess legal problems, and provide strategic advice. The event promotes a client-centered approach, honing key skills such as active listening, empathy, teamwork, and time management.
Purpose of the Competition
The primary objective of this competition is to enhance students’ knowledge and understanding of the preventative aspects of law practice, focusing on interviewing and counselling skills. The competition encourages participants to refine their ability to extract critical information, plan strategies, and deliver legal solutions within the context of the lawyer-client relationship. This platform also fosters valuable educational exchanges between students, educators, and legal professionals.
Competition Format
The competition simulates a law office consultation where two students act as legal practitioners and interview a client. Participants are tasked with identifying the client’s legal issue, outlining potential solutions, and analyzing the case during a post-consultation discussion. Each session includes three stages:
- Consultation: Students interact with the client, gathering information and assessing the legal matter.
- Post-Consultation: Participants discuss the case internally, outlining strategies and next steps.
- Critique: Teams present their solutions and legal strategy to the client, addressing any new information or doubts.
Judges evaluate participants based on their listening, questioning, planning, and analytical abilities.
Team Composition and Evaluation
- Teams consist of two members who work together to conduct the client interviews.
