Basic Life Support Workshop Conducted at Rama Medical College

Mandhana, 13 June 2024 – The Faculty of Medical Sciences at Rama University, Mandhana, hosted a comprehensive “Workshop on Basic Life Support” today. The event took place in Lecture Theatre No. 2 at the Medical College and provided essential hands-on training for bystanders and hospital staff. More than 100 participants received training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) using human mannequins.
Dr. Manisha Nigam, the Head of the Emergency Department, emphasized the importance of basic life support training in a country where approximately 462 people die daily due to road accidents. She highlighted that training common citizens in basic life support could save around 50 to 60 lives each day. The training, which can be completed in just 20 minutes, is crucial for improving emergency response.
The workshop was inaugurated by the Acting Principal and Dean of the college, Dr. Brijendra Nigam, who lit the ceremonial lamp. The training program was spearheaded by the coordinator, Wing Commander (Dr.) Mohd. Muzammil, and convened by Prof. (Dr.) Manisha Nigam. Key speakers included Dr. Siddharth Mani, Dr. Pradeep Tondon (Plastic Surgeon), Dr. Deepak Kumar (HOD Orthopedics), and Dr. Mohammed Muzammil, who elucidated the concepts and methodologies of basic life support.
The practical training sessions were conducted by Dr. Tushar, Dr. Govind, and Dr. Praveen, ensuring that all participants received thorough instruction. The event was expertly anchored by Dr. Tushar Narula, contributing to the smooth execution of the program.
In addition to providing essential life-saving skills, the workshop marked a significant milestone for Rama Medical College’s Emergency Department. Dr. Manisha Nigam announced the department’s recent upgrade and the approval of three postgraduate seats in Emergency Medicine by the National Medical Commission, making it the first medical college in the district to achieve this distinction.
The successful workshop signifies Rama Medical College's commitment to enhancing emergency medical education and community safety, with plans to extend the training to medical and paramedical students, police security personnel, drivers, and other paramedical staff.
