Anti Tobacco Awareness Campaign

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, 31 May 2017, Rama University’s Faculty of Dental Sciences, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Kanpur in conducted anti tobacco awareness program at Transport Nagar,Kanpur.
The program started with an awareness rally at the slum area of transport nagar by the undergraduate students with an objective to highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use and to quit tobacco consumption. During the rally, information leaflets regarding the ill effects of tobacco use were distributed among the public. The leaflets depicted the various types of tobacco used, ill effects of tobacco; steps to reduce tobacco consumption and how to get prepare to quit the tobacco.
A very interesting skit on the theme ‘Tobacco Kills’ was prepared by the undergraduate students which was based on the story of four common men who thought that tobacco consumption is cool and to make public realize that this is not true. They also tried to focus on men who are forced to smoke, by peers. Through the skit, student highlighted some gruesome facts such as tobacco kills more than 7 million people every year in the world.
A free dental checkup was also organized and around 116 patients were screened for dental problems. A team of doctors under the guidance of Principal, Rama Dental College - Dr. Rajashekar Sangur, along with Dr. Jaspreet Tuteja and Dr. Ashish Bhalla participated in the camp.
Investigations like blood pressure and random blood sugar were also performed. Free of cost medicines and toothpastes were distributed to the patients. Oral health Education as well as proper tooth brushing technique was demonstrated for maintaining good oral hygiene. Patients requiring treatment were referred to Rama Dental College, accordingly. The camp was conducted in coordination with Liaison Officer Mr. Subramanyam.
